I’m scarily paranoid about developing shin splints or any of the other numerous injuries that seem akin to running.
Therefore I’ve opted for the prevention is better than cure train of thought. This led me to Sports Direct today where I was kitted out with an “actual” pair of “running shoes” as opposed to the Dunnes Stores special’s trainers I have been using.
The guy was super helpful and turns out I’m a mild over-pronator… (tell me something I don’t know says the husband…) no but really… it’s a medical term not a state of mind.
Basically my feet roll inwards too much, I think it might be what I would describe as fallen arches.
He then gave me lot’s of different trainers to try on that offered the kind of support I needed. “We” (yes it was a joint decision) decided the Asics 1140 ticked all the boxes.
Voilá

Roll on Thursday night so I can break these babies in!!

haha sexy shoes
you'll be running a marathon before you know it!! xoxox
Nice! I need to do the same thing and get some quality running shoes. I've started running recently and I really like it. I have to wear my "bulletproof" sports bra though haha otherwise I wouldn't stand a chance.
Good luck to you!
OOoh shoe envy, the like of which I have never known before! I have a perfectly good pair of trainers that I got about two years back but near enough never saw the light of day until the last few weeks, despite this I am getting new ones as I am worried that they are not right for running, I haven't experienced anything adverse so far as they are well cushioned. But I just want new ones!
My other half works at Sprots Direct and he never helps me out with stuff like this lol. I wanna go to your branch lol. xx
@Kelly You never know eh!!
@ellamarie I'm pretty modestly endowed in the aul boob department and made the mistake of thinking that I wouldn't require a sports bra! Soon learnt that lesson. Ouch :S
@Karen I think you should definitely invest, especially since you had a bit of a foot issue this week. You don't want any injuries holding you back, especially with your 5K on the not too distant horizon!!!
@Emma lol I think this guy might have been a slight sports geek and I just hit lucky! xxx
They look lovely! I'm tempted to start running, my brother-in-law works for Asics so I'm hoping to get a naughty freebie shoes
They are definitely the best from what I've heard (all of my bf's family are running mad!) and any good sports shop should look at your foot to see the pronation. Good luck with breaking them in! x
@Amy If you're tempted I would definitely give it a go. I was always the kid at school that feigned her period every week to avoid PE. I've never truly enjoyed any sport but running is fab. It might be hard work but it's excellent "me time".
Lucky you with the BIL!! xxx
Yes, there was chat this morning about how if somebody behaved herself there might new shoes at the weekend, @theronster likes functional things so he shouldnt be too hard to convince. My foot seems to be ok this morning. I think I just put too much of my weight on the outer part of it on Tuesday when I was running. I have a tendency to do that anyway and probably was trying to correct it.
@Karen even better! Gotta love a treat from the hubby!
Sounds like you're an under-pronator if your foot rolls to the outside.
"This print will leave a very thin band on the lateral side (outside of the foot) or none at all, between the heel and forefoot. This is because most underpronators are forefoot runners, only using the heel down hill. This curved, highly arched foot does not pronate sufficiently and requires a lot of cushioning.
Good running shoes for these people include Asics Gel Nimbus, Saucony Grid Triumph 2 and Mizuno Wave Creation. Stay away from motion control or structured shoes that are designed to reduce foot mobility."

Late to the party on this one, but good luck with the run tonight.
I've got a week off work next week to relax, but Saturday the 12th I'm going to start "Get Running" myself. In theory anyway. I'm a sod for sticking to things like this. x
