I’m beginning to think that our bathroom refurb is jinxed :(

This week already we’ve had:

  • The wall above our hotpress crumble as the tiles were removed.
  • A cracked bath (there is a shadow over quite how this happened….) which had to be returned to B&Q outside of their 28 day policy. Thankfully they replaced it in good will.
  • A chipped sink pedestal. As our plumber manoveured it into position he damaged it…. Luckily he just happens to have another white pedestal “still in plastic” in his garage and we can have that. Great…. Will it match? Absolutely no friggin’ idea to be honest. Does anyone care? No-one but me it seems.
  • We’re overflowing… I went outside earlier as I could hear a drip drip noise… and yes there’s an overflow leaking (that has never leaked in the 18months we’ve lived here) and the whole side of the house is having an impromptu shower. I called the plumber… “It’s your boiler, your pressure is too high, you need to bleed a radiator”…. I need to bleed something but it definitely isn’t a radiator. My boiler pressure is at 1.5 bar, same as always. My blood pressure is in the red.

Why oh why is nothing ever simple?

Why is nothing ever done correctly the FIRST time around?

Why is my house void of alcohol at this moment?

Am I being unreasonable?

Answers on a postcard :(

I don't think you are being unreasonable at all – it is your home and you want it to look nice – i am the same way – do it right the first time, so you don't have to do it again.

good luck…..

I feel your pain!

I am still without living room furniture and only have a semi functioning kitchen with no tiles and a massive gap between the worktop and the wall where the wall is bowed and no on seems to know how to fix it. Gah it's neverending!

You are far from being unreasonable! I just had my ensuite done a few weeks ago through someone we know, most of it is fine but god the whole process was so stressful! I felt like I could have done a better job myself at the time but in the end it all came together, you just got to make sure you push for what you want… You're paying for it at the end of the day! Still waiting for the guy to come back and sort out the connection for the mirror lights and heated tiles though *sigh*. Hold on there Arlene :) x

@DeAnna Thank you hun, I'll need all the luck I can get on this project!

@Emma I have to remind myself there are people worse off, your whole house renovation really is a trial. I don't know how you've coped, honestly.

I'm notoriously bad with strangers in my "space" ,this makes any kind of work like this bad from the off, but when things start to go wrong my head feels like it might explode. I never know what to say to workmen, how often to make tea etc. Plus it doesn't help I develop this inability to speak out about things I'm not happy with. Then I spend the rest of the day kicking myself for being a spineless arse. Ugh. Tiling starts on Friday, hoping and praying it goes smoothly (literally) xx

Try to resist murdering anyone – we did a self build last year and the amount of time a good glass of red wine stopped me from ending up in Mountjoy prison is not inconsiderable – mind you it was mainly the plasterers and the painter. get thee to an offie and relax for the rest of the evening :)

@Ariane You're a lady that knows her stuff. On my second beer now and it all seems less important :) xx

I can't say anything that everyone else hasn't already covered, just that if you're paying then definitely push for what you want.

I was going to suggest you nip out for a bottle of wine, but as you're on the beer I don't think you need my advice on that one either lol :)

Try and relax this evening and tell yourself that it'll all be sorted in no time…easier said than done, but worth a go xx
