Exactly 4 weeks ago I embarked on a little tidy up nail campaign.

Nails on 9th June 2009

Nails on 9th June 2009

My main gripes were nail bed discolouration, manky cuticles and general length/strength. I have to be honest and say that I’m still abusing my nails with all manner of bright polishes.

However I have been applying my Sally Hansen Miracle Growth once a day and these are the results so far :)

Ok, so they still need work but there is a marked improvement, most notable in the fact that they are no longer peeling/ breaking and are maintaining length. I see beautiful long nails in my not too distant future ;)

How’s everyone else getting on?

xoxo

Ooooh sounds good, I might give that a whirl once I finish this bottle of Sally Hansen. I'm really impressed with it, but it is pricey at £8 odds xxx

I've been using the Rimmel one for a few years too – whenever I need a helping hand of course! Highly recommend it :)

Awww thanks Shirl :D

I've heard people talking about glass nail files, never actually seen one though, I'm assuming its a more specialist file? Will have a look in Sallys xxx

Boots/tesco are dear with the glass ones. One I go for comes from Baird's chemist, vitreol is the brand. (pale blue slip cover) Just don't sit down with it in yer jeans pocket 

I swear by that Sally Hansen stuff. A couple of months ago my nails were a state – weak, peeling and short. I've been using the Sally Hansen stuff in conjunction with Burt's Bees lemon Cuticle Cream and OPI Avoplex cuticle oil and a glass nail file and now my nails look so fab I can't stop admiring myself :-)

I got a cheap glass file from Bodycare – i don't know if you have them in NI? It was about £3.99 and it is brilliant.

I'm obsessed with unusual colours now. I now can't wait for the MAC Jin Soon Choi collection – there's a khaki/olive green polish I've got my eye on called Dirty Martini. I got a freind to get me Metro Chic when she went to NY last month and I've asked another freind to get me China Glaze For Audrey when she goes next month!

Hey,

M&S do some really good nail whitening tablets, dissolve in hot water and soak your nails in the solution. I love barry m nail varnishes but always do a clear coat first to protect the nail from staining. Also ms manicure do a nail file in a case which is perfect for in my handbag!mwahx

@Claire I picked up a file today, hopefully that'll help me shape them, though I reall honestly don't have a clue, hope I don't end up with pointy nails :D

I have Metro Chic but I'm saving it for Autumn, stunning colour. I would LOVE For Audrey simply because it looks so stunning on other people, but from experience, turquoise/ greens etc don't look that great on my nails xxx

@Perfectly Flawed Great tips :) M&S will be getting a visit, I'm way too lazy to basecoat all the time ;) xxx

I wasn't sure about shaping, but I ended up going straight across with rounded corners as I like the way it looks on other people. I love Scrangie's nails and she swatches some fab colours on her blog: http://www.scrangie.com/

Tut tut miss – base coat should never be skipped, it makes such a difference to nails, how the varnish sits and how long it lasts. BarryM's base/top coat is fab, cheap, doubles as base and top coat and can also be used as just a clear. If you're short on drying time I would recommend this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elegant-Touch-Rapid-Nail-…

Sorry for the random Amazon-ness, they do it in Boots by the nail varnish removers but couldn't find it on their site to link to. mwahx

Haha! My knuckles are well and truly rapped :)

For top coat/ drying I'm a Seche Vite girl through & through, the fact that I can bascially put it on wet nails and be out the door in a few minutes is just way too appealing.

I bought some ridge filler last week as I've seen it gives a lovely smooth base, gonna break that out tonight and give it a whirl xxx

Hiya – when you apply this everyday do you just apply one coat on top of another or do you start afresh everytime removing the previous layer

dressjunkie August 11, 2009 at 11:07 am

Hi Louise, it really depends, if I'm wearing nail polish I just apply it over that. However this week my nails have been bare barr the Sally Hansen. I apply up to 4 layers over each other (I apply day and night) and then it starts to look shabby so I just use a conditioning and strengthening nail polish remover and start over. They're still going strong xx

Thanks honey I bought some for my mum after reading about your success with it – If it works on my mums nails it really will be a miracle – thanks x

LOL It'll never work on my mum, she's a nail biter, absolutely no hope for her. I've just done an updated post of the nails with pics xx
