A sheepish update…… I may have just by chance have found myself on the MAC website, and totally by accident found a shortcut via the sitemap to the Hello Kitty Collection, and then I don’t know quite what happened… its all a bit hazy…. hmmm, but it seems that I purchased Tippy blush… at least thats what the email receipt says…. damn website must have inputted all my debit card and address details…. I should probably complain…. ;)

It has for me anyway… Hello Kitty @ MAC launches next week and to be completely honest I’ve reached the stage where I don’t think I’ll be purchasing ANYTHING.

Why oh why do MAC leave so long between the US release dates and the UK. Is everyone that works in MAC still under the illusion we all communicate via morse code and carrier pigeon?

Fair enough, maybe a few years back when the YouTube community and beauty blogs weren’t as prevalent, sure then I can understand that MAC built a hype with a collection using the fact that us UK peeps couldn’t see many swatches, videos etc, the anticipation built and when we did eventually get it we spent shedloads.

However its 2009 MAC, we all talk to each other via blogs and YouTube is saturated with swatch and haul videos. Therefore we are party to good and bad reviews before the collection has even hit our streets. Things we thought were gorgeous and must haves simply become a bit samey and we start to see dupes for the colours in palettes & things we already own.

Like the Barry M 129 below which is a brilliant dupe for the Creme Team collection’s Lavender Whip, but less than a third of the price…..this has been all over YouTube, its not 100% the same, but its certainly a brilliant dupe and from the American’s that have both (yes, they have had TIME to get both by now), I hear its actually much more wearable because of the underlying pinky tone?
So who in their right mind can honestly say that Lavender Whip is still on their “to buy” list?!

By the time we get to see the collection our list of £200 of products has been edited down to a much more restrained £50 if that.

So thanks MAC, you’re saving me money, pity for yourselves no-one seems able to spot the obvious error in your UK marketing strategy. I can’t help but picture MAC HQ as this old fashioned building with no windows, internet, light or telephones…..

I totally agree with you. We've a MAC store opening in Cambridge at the end of this month / beginning of next, which I was so wanting to raid of anything Hello Kitty…. however like you've said, there's barely anything I'm fussed about buying anymore :-( Its a shame really, I'm brilliant at wasting money, so MAC have missed out big time!

It's so true. Also we get to see how much more MAC does for their US customers. They're doing another free delivery for website orders atm apparently. When have you seen UK MAC offer anything? lol

You're so right Elizabeth, I laughed out loud at Xmas when they had their fab "offer" of free delivery (yeah if you spent over £50). xx

Lavender whip was in cremeteam..but still… I'm not getting a THING from Hello Kitty, not least because I have given up shopping for Lent but mainly because I think all the colours that I like are very dupable.

I hate palettes as well – I never want all the colours so you end up with ones you don't use. Singles are the way forward.

Great post! Really got a lot of chuckles out of this one since it's so true. I live in the US, so all the hype passed by a long time ago. I wasn't interested…maybe a bit but after seeing all the videos and blogs…decided not to purchase a thing. Plus, I thought their whole mild/wild HK was completely off…well…it turned me off to the collection let's say. Hope your having a great week!

Oh Paige you're gonna chuckle again now….. I've just bought Tippy Blush from the collection online. *rolls eyes* There really is no hope for me :S

I am sooo with you on this. I was really excited and now I just feel a bit 'meh'. I popped into my local MAC earlier to get a paintpot and the MUA asked me if I wanted to have a sneak preview of the HK stuff. It all looks v cute, and she swatched a couple of lipsticks for me, but I just don't feel so bothered anymore now I've watched a million HK hauls/reviews/swatch videos etc. I still think I might get Pink Fish TLC, but my excitement now is for the Sugar Sweet collection!

Also, I picked up that Barry M Lavender Whip dupe in Superdrug earlier – I'm loving it!

Well I caved and bought the blush Claire but that really is all I'll be having from it. I do still think its horrendously overpriced, when you use the current exchange rate and change what the yanks paid into £, they have pumped each item up for around a £5. You can purchase HK now online in the UK, just go to the homepage of MAC and down to sitemap and get entrance from there. I think Pink Fish TLC is well priced really and I'm sure you'd actually use it.

Barry M Dupe is amazing, still struglling for a good complimentary gloss for over it tho, any suggestions?? xx

lol! At least you got the good stuff! I love their beauty powder blushes.

The blushes do look like they have great colour payoff and the packaging has got glitter (and it's not as 'temporary' as Dame Edna was), so you've probably got the best deal there in terms of a cute MAC SE you'll actually use (I fell for the Dame Edna beauty powders – 'nuff said there I think!).

I just watched a Lollipop26 vid on Youtube and she's got some GOSH Lip jams, one of which (no 106) she said works really well with the Barry M 239. They're on 3 for 2 in Superdrug at the mo too. I thought I might try it, variously, with lipglasses in Nico, Oyster Girl and maybe a bit of the white one from the Chill collection – think it's called Snowscene – can't be bothered hauling myself upstairs to check ;-)

Thanks for the HK tip off on the MAC site – I'll go and have a mooch… xx

LOL – I obviously had a MAC meltdown there when I said the Barry M 239, instead of 129. Mind collapse and it's still only Wednesday!

Good thinking batman, you've just reminded me that I have Frozen Dream from the Chill Collection and I'm betting it will compliment 129 perfectly! Thanks :)

Dame Edna Collection was embarrassing for MAC I felt, I went to my local branch shortly after release and the display items were just peeling. Looked tacky and cheap.

If they are going to market themselves as a high end brand then they really can't be doing stickers, plain nasty xx
